Jeromye Sartain is a Tennessee, California and U.S. Patent and Trademark Office licensed attorney and co-founder of Master Key IP who prides himself on providing quality and personalized service at reasonable flat fee rates, offering tremendous value to his clients as an extension of their business leadership team.
Jeromye received a J.D. with magna cum laude honors and an intellectual property law certificate from Whittier Law School in Costa Mesa, California in May 2002. Prior to law school, Jeromye worked approximately 5 years in the medical device industry after receiving a B.S. in mechanical engineering with summa cum laude honors from Christian Brothers University in Memphis, Tennessee in May 1993.
Before launching Master Key IP with Justin Sanders, Jeromye was the President and managing partner of Mind Law Firm, P.C. for over a decade, an I.P. boutique that he founded in January 2003 having offices in California and Tennessee, and upon a merger with One3 IP Management, P.C., in February 2014 he served as Vice President of Mechanical and Medical Devices before then working at Lodestone Legal Group in Franklin as the firm's sole I.P. counsel in a multi-practice group from June 2016 to December 2021.
Jeromye works with independent inventors, start-ups, and small to mid-size companies primarily in the area of intellectual property rights registration and protection. Jeromye's areas of practice include:
- Utility and design patent applications across a broad range of mechanical arts;
- Patent searches and patentability opinions;
- Freedom-to-operate and patent infringement and validity studies;
- Trademark clearance and applications;
- U.S. copyright registrations;
- International patent applications under the Patent Cooperation Treaty and international trademark applications under the Madrid Protocol as well as coordinating direct national filings through foreign associates;
- Drafting a variety of agreements relating to confidentiality, out-sourcing and joint ventures, licensing, etc.; and
- Related consultation regarding intellectual property matters.
When not working on his own clients' cases, Jeromye enjoys volunteering at the Williamson County Schools Entrepreneurship and Innovation Center ("EIC") as a guest lecturer and mentor to the next generation of entrepreneurs and inventors and participating in the Williamson County Chamber of Commerce (Williamson Inc.).
Prior to entering the legal profession, Jeromye worked as an engineer in the medical device industry, ranging from CNC-machined custom prosthetics to high-volume disposable airway management and respiratory therapy products. He handled technical tasks involving product design, injection molding, assembly, and materials technologies as well as managing all engineering and quality functions and overseeing process design, validation, and monitoring per FDA Good Manufacturing Practices.
Jeromye currently resides in Franklin, Tennessee, with his wife and four children. When not working, he enjoys quality time with his family, including activities such as biking and hiking, swimming, travel, date nights, game nights, and homeschooling as well as serving in his local church.
